SURVEY REVEALS KORINA & WILLIE FAVORED SENATORIAL CANDIDATES!

A year and a half before the May 2013 mid-term elections, Filipinos have already chosen their top 15 senatorial picks, with Senator Francis Escudero emerging on top and Justice Secretary Leila de Lima also a favorite, the results of a recent Pulse Asia survey showed.

"Even though there are still 18 months to go before the next senatorial elections, public interest in the electoral exercise is already apparent with Filipinos naming a mean of 9 and a median of 11 of their preferred senatorial candidates (out of a maximum of 12) for May 2013," Pulse Asia said.

The survey results, released Wednesday, showed Escudero taking the nod of 65.6 percent of the 1,200 respondents polled nationwide, to emerge on top of the 15 "probable candidates" - most either former or incumbent senators - with a "statistical chance" of making it to the chamber if elections were held in November.

Rounding off the top five probable candidates are:

- Senator Loren Legarda with 58.9 percent;

- Transportation and Communications Secretary Manuel A. Roxas II with 43 percent;

- Senator Alan Peter S. Cayetano with 40.3 percent;

- Former Vice President Noli de Castro, with 34.8 percent,

Others who made to the list are:

- San Juan City Representative Joseph Victor Ejercito with 30.4 percent;

- Senator Gregorio B. Honasan with 29.6 percent;

- Cagayan Representative Juan Ponce Enrile, Jr. with 29.5 percent;

- Senator Aquilino Martin Pimentel III and Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, both with 29.4 percent;

- Former Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, who resigned and was replaced by Pimentel, with 26.9 percent.

Other probable winners are Senator Antonio F. Trillanes IV (28.7 percent), Aurora Province Representative Juan Edgardo M. Angara (24.3 percent), former Senator Ana Madrigal (24.0 percent) and former Senator Richard J. Gordon (22.1 percent).

"At best, these individuals would find themselves in 6th to 12th places but their lowest statistical rankings - 14th to 20th places - would put them out of the winners’ circle," Pulse Asia said.

Some respondents also listed down showbiz and news personalities as
among their senatorial bets.

These include news anchor Korina Sanchez and TV5 Wiltime Bigtime host, Willie Revillame with 18.8 and 20 percent
