NIELSEN: TV5 OVERTAKES GMA-7 IN NUTAM DURING COVERAGE OF PBA SEMIFINALS!

TV5 has finally made a dent on the ratings battle thanks to the PBA Semifinals coverage! Data from Neilsen Media Research indicate last January 31, 2014 TV5 outran GMA-7 in the National Ratings with 15% more viewers at the peak of the game between San Mig Super Coffee and Ginebra San Miguel. At this point TV5 became the No.2 most watch channel in the Philippines next to ABS-CBN, while GMA-7 dropped to No.3.

The trend on Mega Manila was also similar with TV5 scoring a 8.7 Average Minute Rating (AMR) versus the 8.3 AMR of ABS-CBN and 7.8 AMR of GMA. The recent PBA viewership ratings on TV5 mark the highest ever for the league since 2007.

TV5 also claimed high viewership numbers in Visayas that evening cornering more than twice the number of viewers on rival programs from GMA-7. The Kapatid network garnered 33.8% audience share or 7.1% AMR in the Visayas versus GMA’s 14.9% audience share or 3.1% AMR.

Meanwhile, Mindanano viewers were also tuned in to the game, as proven by TV5’s 23.7% audience share or 4.9% AMR against GMA’s 14.2% audience share or 2.9% AMR.

However, on both survey areas, ABS-CBN remained the most watched channel.

But it is worth to note that the surge in ratings for TV5 was short lived for the specific airtime of the PBA Semifinals. Nevertheless, the improvement in viewership for TV5 is a strong indication that the duopoly in the Philippine Broadcasting industry is not invincible.
